I have the same birthday as Glampyre!
I'm stuck on a sweater for the store, it's just endless stockinette. I always think I'm in the home stretch, but then it just dr-aaa--gs on.

Nice buttons, eh? Can't wait to have this puppy done so I can "buy" (store credit from the knitting) another Lexie Barnes bag. They're the best, and my skull print is limited edition. I think my bag addiction stems from always wanting to cart around lots of books and things I deem necessary. It's just comforting to have all your accouterments with you. I jokingly said that it's a good investment because it'd make a good diaper bag (it's huge and waterproof) and all the ladies at work are now convinced I'm coming down with baby flu. Not so! Some day, but hopefully YEARS from now.

I knit a panta recently, you can read more about them at Craftster.

Wine isn't normally on my vanity, by the way, I was celebrating a birthday and anniversary, and of course, a finished object!

I've been messing about with some Noro #95, I know the edges look incredibly uneven, but I'm double-knitting inside out to get a stockinette tube. The yarn is so uneven in spots I'm really not worried about it having a slubby look. I just love the colors!

Lastly, I highly recommend this product that I once ridiculed: a Yarntainer. Even when you have a fancy knitting bag, your yarn falls apart, gets caught in your hairbrush, gets lip gloss or lint, or marshmallow Fluff on it, and these handy things totally prevent those occurences. (Infomercial voice) I love mine!

<3,

Cirilia

P.S. Guess who knit on a mountain top this weekend?

Hm, it just worked for me so I'm not sure how to fix it. You can go to http://www.crafster.org and enter the forum then search for 'panta', it's the first entry that pops up. So many people have made them, and they're all cute. It's a great instant gratification project, too.

Hi there,
Great pictures--you seem like such a happy person. I noticed you knit with the yarn wrapped around the finger of you left hand. Do you knit continental style? If so, do you recommend it?

Hi Tere, are you Tere from Craftster? I really am happy when I'm knitting, which is almost always!

I do knit Continental most of the time, and I really like it. I learned English and still revert to that when I'm knitting socks, lace, cables, anything that requires some concentration. But simple stitch patterns and basic garter or stockinette are so much easier in Continental, it's a much more efficient use of motion in my opinion, it feels ergonomic. I'm faster and have noticed more even tension. It did take a whole sweater to get the hang of it. If you're in the Northeast, I'm teaching a class on it next month!

The buttons are gorgeous by the way.

And I would do that, except do I look like a margarine kind of girl? Un-unh. I tried with various vessels but the yarn snags on the amateurishly punched holes. We're talking shredded merino, I'll take the shame of a yarntainer over that any day!

creepy...we have thirteen time zones between us, and yet, we're both on the internet talking about knitting at the same time. Yeah, yarntainers are pretty sweet, I guess I'm just intimidated by their raw power...and please tell everyone at Webs I said hi, and that I almost bought an emergency plane ticket back to Northampton when I went on the website and saw the new colors of Noro, not to mention Berkshire.

They rule, and it seems like a short hair girl thing. It took much fussing to get it to not look retarded on me. Misti Alpaca, perfect for a Siberian caliber panta.

It's totally hilarious and awesome that we were online at the same (relative) time. It's like we're in a sappy commerical for Microsoft or Apple or something.

At first I didn't want to love Berkshire. They put it RIGHT where the Brown Sheep was! Like a blatant bait and switch! But now...I'm so in love with it. The BS (haha, BS) was always a little over spun for my liking and the Berkshire is ever so slightly spun, it's practically roving. The colors are great, there aren't any heathers (yet) but the price RULES. Under 5 before discount, it's the beans and rice of yarn. PLUS-it's 15% alpaca instead of mohair, so so soft, and not hairy.

OH, and your Tink came! It's been mailed off to your stateside address, and it's so so so awesome. I've got one on hold for myself, lame and greedy, but I don't care, the bag just rules.

Hey Mom! I paraphrased one of the translations here. You can use any increase you want to, the easiest one is probably knitting into the front of a stitch and before nudging it off the needle, knitting into the back of it. It's in your Stitch and Bitch book. It might look funny, or show a small hole on the right side, but it's okay, it will be hidden by those big ridges. I had to fiddle to find an increase I liked, but overall it's a quick little knit!

Use needles slightly smaller than what the yarn calls for. This will create a tighter fabric that won't stretch out of shape as easily. Measure your head where you want the headband to sit. Divide this number by 10. This is how long each section of the increases will be (so if your circumference is 20" then each section would be 2" -- except for section 5, which is twice as long). Insert this section length into the blanks.

Panta Pattern:

Cast on 19 stitches.

Section 1:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k1] x 6
Row 2: p1, [k2, p1] x 6 = 19s
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach _____ inches

Section 2:
Row 1: k1 [p2, k1, increase 1] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p2] x 5, k2, p1 = 24 stitches
Row 3: k1 [p2, k2] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p2] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 3:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k2, increase 1] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p3] x 5, k2, p1 = 29s
Row 3: k1, [p2, k3] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p3] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 4:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k3, increase 1] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p4] x 5, k2, p1 = 34s
Row 3: k1, [p2, k4] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p4] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 5:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k4, increase 1] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p5] x 5, k2, p1 = 39s
Row 3: k1, [p2, k5] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p5] x 5, k2, p1

(THIS ONE MUST BE TWICE THE LENGTH OF THE OTHER SECTIONS!)
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 6:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k3, k2together] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p4] x 5, k2, p1 = 34s
Row 3: k1, [p2, k4] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p4] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 7:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k2, k2together] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p3] x 5, k2, p1 = 29s
Row 3: k1, [p2, k3] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p3] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach _____ inches

Section 8:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k1, k2together] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p2] x 5, k2, k1 = 24s
Row 3: k1 [p2, k2] x 5, p2, k1
Row 4: p1, [k2, p2] x 5, k2, p1
Repeat 3 & 4 until you reach ____ inches

Section 9:
Row 1: k1, [p2, k2together] x 5, p2, k1
Row 2: p1, [k2, p1] x 5, k2, p1 = 19s
Row 1: k1, [p2, k1] x 6
Row 2: p1, [k2, p1] x 6
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach ____ inches

Bind off, sew ends together.

I'm glad to hear the Houstonites are okay, and that you're doing okay with the relationship stuff. A little rockiness is to be expected, right?

Thanks for the birthday money, by the way, it was totally unnecessary but very much appreciated! Some of it went to practical stuff, and some of it went to (you'll like this) thermal shirts that were 50% off at J.C. Penny's. It's definitely starting to get chilly here and I needed them!

Vinnie actually DOES take pictures, it's funny. He uses Dad's digital camera and 'vouges' in front of the mirror. They're good, I'll see if I can find some online.

What does the intercultural comm class entail? I took a business communication course that covered etiquette issues and I'm wondering if this is the same thing. It was basically How to Not Be an Ugly American 101. You're not THE worst in email, everyone kind of tosses grammar and punctuation rules out the window online. But! As a journalist, you should be an example to others...just kidding =P

Let me know how your speech goes, I'll call you later to check on it. I just registered for the GREs. All of a sudden graduate school is an Actual Goal.

Eep!

Hey hon,

Thanks so much for the Panta pattern....

I'm going to attempt it..... I'll let you know how it goes...

I'm glad you picked up some thermals.......and that you caught a sale..... Now I'll know that you'll be nice and warm when that wicked winter weather sets in......

When I develop a concise definition of intercultural communications...I'll share..... Right now, the text has me exasperated because the writing seems to spin around seamlessly....and I'm trying to draw points and summarizations from it...... EYIII!!!! I'm wading through it though.... maybe in another week I can explain what I'm studying. :-(

Cool if you can transmit some photos of Vin.... He seems like the forgotten child in my photo gallery....
Lots of facsimilies of you, Jovon, Mark, etc.... but Vin is underrepresented.

love you lots,

I'll be in touch....

My co-workers are so impressed w/your knitting....they ooh and ah...and say....things like "Oh it looks store bought!!"~~~~~~
I told them you started needlearts at age 6!! It's beautiful to see how you've carried that skill forward.
